Four Swing-Gate Options Compared
These are external operators for swing gates, suitable for comparing proposals for auto gate installation or replacement. A leaf is one moving panel, not the full driveway opening. Each maker sells other models too. BFT’s PHOBOS manual, for example, also covers the longer A40, rated for leaves up to 3 m without an electric lock or 4 m with one. Check the exact model on your quote and ask whether it is stocked and warranted in Singapore.

An encoder gives the controller feedback about movement. For DEA LOOK, encoder equipment varies by version and works alongside external safety accessories; it is not a substitute for assessing the complete gate. Actuator stroke means how far the arm extends or retracts, while its mounting position determines how that movement opens the leaf.
For example, a 2.2 m swing leaf exceeds the FAAC 412 page’s 1.8 m limit. The PHOBOS BT A25 manual treats that same length differently depending on whether an electric lock is fitted. That is a real difference to resolve before comparing quotations. Neither example says a motor is suitable just because the leaf falls below a headline length: weight, hinge position, wind exposure and the available mounting space still matter.
Have a qualified gate technician assess the mechanical condition with the power isolated and the gate secured before close inspection. A motor cannot correct a loose post or worn hinge. Homeowner observations should stay at a safe distance, without touching moving parts or opening electrical covers.

Duty Cycle and Heavy Use
Duty ratings describe how frequently an operator can run under specified conditions; manufacturers may express them as cycles or operating-time limits. Check the definition in the model's documentation and compare it with the household's busiest periods, not only an average day.
The FAAC 412 specification gives 18 cycles per hour, while the CAME AXI technical data states a 50% duty cycle. One counts cycles and the other describes operating time relative to rest. Ask the installer to interpret each rating for the proposed gate; the figures cannot be ranked as if they were the same unit.
A gate that operates repeatedly in a short burst can place different demands on the drive from the same number of movements spread across a day. Weight is also only part of the load: a wide solid panel catches wind, and worn hinges or a dirty track resist movement. The operator rating, gate geometry and installation condition therefore belong in one assessment. Choosing a larger motor without resolving friction or trapping hazards can preserve the underlying problem.

A motor’s price on its own isn’t the cost of an automated gate. One quotation may supply only the drive, while another includes two arms, the controller, safety devices and repairing the existing gate. Have each proposal fill the same scope before deciding which total is lower.
For a PHOBOS BT A25 leaf longer than 2 m, the electric lock in BFT’s model table is part of that scope. Battery backup and connected control also need compatible equipment. A quotation that leaves those items out cannot be compared directly with one that includes them.

A motor warranty can cover a replacement component while leaving labour, diagnosis or transport chargeable. Separate those costs before treating a long term as comprehensive cover. A warranty advertised for a different country or distributor does not automatically apply to a Singapore installation.
Identify who issues the product warranty and who warrants the installation. If the controller or a safety device fails, the paperwork should show whether it falls under the same cover as the motor. Keep any maintenance conditions beside the warranty so they can be followed.
Local parts support changes what happens after a fault is diagnosed. Ask who obtains a replacement board or arm, how chargeable work is approved and what happens if the model is discontinued. A written attendance commitment still does not promise that the required part will be available on that visit.
Noise Levels
The four reference families above use electric motors and mechanical drives. Their model specifications explain operating limits and controls, but do not provide a like-for-like test of the noise heard inside a bedroom. Hinges, gate panels, end stops and the latch can all contribute to what you hear.
If a bedroom faces the gate, ask to hear the proposed model on a similar installation. Include the complete opening and closing cycle in the check: the motor, gate movement, stops and latch all matter to the sound you will hear. Record any agreed adjustment work in the installation scope.
Which One Do You Pick?
For a swing leaf up to 1.8 m, shortlist the FAAC 412 when its use rating and mounting geometry fit. For a 2.2 m leaf, the PHOBOS BT A25 needs the electric-lock configuration in its manual; the CAME AXI25DGS provides another model to assess. For a longer leaf, examine the relevant DEA LOOK version and its weight limits before pricing it.
No single brand is the best or most reliable on every gate. The best gate motor for yours is the model rated for its leaf length, weight and daily use, fitted with the safety devices it needs and backed by parts you can get in Singapore. Bring the leaf dimensions, the model name from the existing motor’s label (read it with the gate closed and switched off, without opening any cover) and any quotations to discuss an auto gate replacement.

What are the different types of gate motors?
Swing gates use drives that turn the leaf around its hinges, including linear arms, articulated arms and underground operators. Sliding drives move the gate sideways along its run. Swing operators can be electromechanical or hydraulic. All four models in the table above are electromechanical, and DEA, the maker of the LOOK, also makes a hydraulic swing operator for large and heavy gates, the OLI/N.
How do I choose between an AC and DC sliding gate motor?
AC or DC tells you how the motor is powered, not which motor is better, so ask what each one does in a power cut. Of the swing motors on this page, the 412 uses a single-phase AC motor on 230 V mains, and when the power goes, its maker’s release key lets the gate be opened by hand. The CAME AXI’s motor runs on 24 V DC and can keep working through a blackout with the maker’s dedicated accessories. BFT’s manual lists a BT BAT battery kit that runs the 24 V PHOBOS for a short time without mains power.
