A functioning lift is only one part of the handover
Request the lift’s equipment identity, current operating record and service history before completion. A brief ride tells you what happened on that ride; it does not establish that records, support arrangements and future responsibilities will pass to you.
BCA’s LEAP FAQ says a private landed-property sale does not automatically update lift ownership. Include the outgoing owner’s transfer action in the handover arrangements, alongside the house keys and utility changes.
Use a three-part records tracker
Ask for copies you can retain and identify the person who will resolve each missing item. A seller who does not have a document may be able to obtain it from the current contractor; a missing file should prompt a request, not an invented conclusion about the lift’s condition.

BCA’s LEAP service lets owners update the registered service contractor as well as ownership. Confirm who will maintain the lift from the handover date; do not assume the seller’s agreement transfers on the same terms.
