Define three different completion questions

First, has the contracted construction work been completed and inspected as required? Second, have the installed systems been commissioned by the appropriate professionals? Third, has the pool been assessed as ready for its intended use, with the owner trained in the operating plan?

Agree who answers each question in the contract. A photograph of clear water cannot settle the condition of concealed pipework, electrical systems or the water-care arrangement.

Collect technical records that identify this pool

Request the final equipment schedule and as-built drawing showing relevant pipes, valves, discharge routes and services. The file should identify the installation rather than consist only of generic manufacturer brochures.

Walk through the pool as an owner

Have the provider identify the equipment, ordinary controls and the actions the owner is permitted to take. Demonstrate the routine without opening pressurised equipment or exposing electrical parts. Clarify which indicators call for a service visit.

Include water and chemical responsibility

Ask for initial water-check results and a written care plan tied to the pool’s treatment system. CDC home-pool guidance stresses testing and appropriate disinfection. The provider should explain the relevant targets, test method and response to a result outside the agreed range.

Clarify whether the homeowner is expected to handle any chemicals. If so, obtain training and the actual product instructions; otherwise agree a service arrangement that covers those tasks. Identify the storage area and keep labels and safety information available.

Verify the interfaces before concealing or closing them

Have the relevant professional confirm the discharge arrangement. PUB distinguishes several pool-water sources, so the handover drawings should not simply label every pipe as drainage. Also confirm that equipment remains accessible after landscaping and screens are finished.

Review barriers, gates, covers and the household supervision arrangement before use. CDC provides home-pool safety principles; the project professional must separately establish any applicable Singapore requirements.

Make the first service part of the transition

Book the initial maintenance follow-up and identify who holds responsibility between construction completion and that visit. Give the service provider the equipment details and commissioning information so the operating baseline is not lost.

List defects and incomplete work with clear owners and completion evidence. Keep the pool out of use if a safety or water-quality concern has not been resolved. A completed handover leaves the owner with an understandable routine and a reliable route for help, not just a set of keys.
