An outdoor lift position must work in wet weather
Assess the whole journey from the room to the lift, not only the space occupied by its shaft. An external position may preserve internal floor area, but a household still needs practical access at every stop when it is raining and someone is carrying bags or using a walking aid.

Map the exposure, landing by landing
Photograph the intended route in rain if you can do so safely from normal occupied areas. These observations help the designer investigate exposure; they do not replace drainage or structural design.

Resolve the building connection before ordering
An outdoor shaft may need new connections to upper floors. Ask the project designer to assess the proposal, including the structure, openings and applicable submissions. Keep the selected equipment’s requirements with the building drawings so the two scopes can be coordinated.
Use the same discipline for water protection. Identify the party responsible for the lift enclosure, the building wall and the joint between them. Three individually described components can still leave an unassigned junction.
