Landed Kitchen Renovation in Singapore: Buying Guide →Key takeaways
- Check the exact tap model and WELS information, not just the brand or the seller’s photograph.
- Water-efficiency information does not tell you whether the tap fits your sink and worktop.
- Settle missing product documents before the worktop holes or replacement tap are committed.
Start with the model, not the photograph
A discounted tap can look identical to one in a local showroom while carrying a different model code or connection arrangement. Before ordering, request the complete model reference and the WELS information for that exact product. PUB advises consumers to check WELS labels when buying fittings in physical shops or online and provides a registered-product listing.
Compare the name on the listing, product documentation and proposed invoice. A screenshot of a water label for a different model does not resolve the purchase. If the information is unclear, ask the supplier to identify the matching registration rather than accepting a general statement that the brand is approved.
Use a purchase check with two separate answers
First establish the product evidence. Then ask the installer whether the selected fitting suits the actual sink and connection arrangement. Neither answer replaces the other.
| Check | Evidence to request |
|---|---|
| Product identity | Exact model, finish/version where relevant, manufacturer details and invoice description |
| Singapore product requirements | Matching WELS label and registered-product information; supplier confirmation of compliance |
| Physical fit | Tap-hole requirement, spout reach, overall height, handle movement and room below the counter |
| Use and maintenance | Whether the hose or moving parts have space, how parts are serviced and who handles local support |
Check the space above and below the sink
For a pull-out tap, ask the installer to check its moving hose against the sink bowl, waste fittings and storage. For a tall tap near a window, check both the tap controls and the opening window. For a wall-mounted design, confirm its compatibility before finishing the wall. These are practical fit checks; use the manufacturer’s dimensions rather than estimating from the photograph.
If the kitchen worktop has not yet been cut, give the fabricator the confirmed tap and sink details together. If you are replacing a tap, have the existing opening and access checked before buying. A different tap style can change the installation scope even when the sink stays.
What to do when the listing is incomplete
PUB’s water-fittings guidance covers advertising and supply through online portals as well as physical outlets. Request the missing documents before purchase. If the seller cannot identify the exact product and its applicable registration, choose a listing that can be verified.
Keep the invoice and product information with your kitchen appliance schedule. This makes it easier to check the delivered model and obtain the correct replacement part later.
