Start with the existing structure and movement
Ask the installer to assess the leaves, hinges or rollers, stops, supports and travel path before selecting an operator. Describe sagging, dragging, impacts and past repairs, but leave physical testing or dismantling to the professional. Map the changing hazards

The proposed protective measures should be explained in relation to those areas. A list saying motor plus sensors is insufficient if it never shows what the sensors cover and which risks remain. Do not ask the provider to trade away a required safety measure to keep an old design unchanged.

Check the frontage before preserving it
Mark the full movement envelope, parked vehicles, pedestrian route, letterbox and visitor waiting position. If the gate arrangement changes, discuss the footpath, boundary and driveway interfaces with the appropriate professional.

Test the fallback before agreeing the design
The motorised arrangement still needs a practical interruption plan. Ask how the installed release system is reached and operated, whether the intended household member can manage the gate and how the gate is secured afterward.
