Auto gate handover: what the installer should demonstrate and record

Agree the handover evidence before installation

Put the demonstration and records in the quotation scope. The system includes the moving gate, supports, drive, controls and protective features; buying a recognised motor does not settle whether that assembled installation suits the site.

Its engineering principles are useful here, while its UK legal provisions should not be treated as Singapore requirements. Witness normal use from a safe position

Have the installer show opening, closing, stopping and any pedestrian-opening function. Demonstrate each supplied remote, wall control and app with the gate area kept clear. Ask what each indication means and how the household recognises a fault.

Walk through the route after the gate is fully open and stationary. Consider a person returning on foot, a delivery visitor and a driver waiting inside. The handover should make the permitted routine understandable to people who were absent during installation.

Ask for professional test results

The installer should explain which hazards were assessed and which protective measures address them. Ask for records of the applicable commissioning checks, including the configured safety functions. Do not test crushing protection with a person, pet, vehicle or an improvised obstruction.

A homeowner can witness an explanation and retain records without attempting the specialist test. If the installer proposes a demonstration that puts someone in the gate’s movement zone, stop and request a safe test method.

Make the power-cut routine practical

Ask the installer to demonstrate the manual-release procedure from the actual positions a resident can reach. Confirm who can perform it, what the gate may do once released and how it is secured afterward. Keep the key accessible to authorised users and separate from any place that becomes inaccessible when the gate stops.

CAME describes manual release as a provision on its gate operators, but the steps and precautions depend on the installed model. If a resident cannot safely manage the gate manually, arrange an alternative access plan.

Close the record, including digital ownership

For connected gates, confirm the owner account, invited users and any installer remote access. Demonstrate how the owner obtains support and manages permissions. Record the system’s behaviour if the internet is unavailable separately from its behaviour during a power cut.

Keep unresolved items visible until there is evidence of completion. An attractive finished gate and a working app are useful outcomes, but they do not replace the commissioning file or the household’s ability to operate the equipment safely.
